Bellissimo Named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern's Moriah Bellissimo has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. The junior tallied 76 digs last week, as the Eagles won two of three road matches to conclude the regular season.

Bellissimo led the Eagles in digs in all three matches, including 27 against Davidson when the Eagles recorded their highest three-set dig total (88) of the season. The Blackstone, Va., native recorded 28 digs against Furman in a tough, four-set loss and 21 against Wofford, as the Eagles swept the Terriers in three sets to finish the regular season 18-14 overall, 10-6 in league play.

Georgia Southern enters the 2011 Southern Conference Championship as the No. 3 seed in the South Division and will open tournament play against Appalachian State on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11:00 a.m. EST at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
