Volleyball Returns Home to Host Bash In the Boro
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Volleyball team (3-8) returns home after seven-straight games away from Hanner Fieldhouse and will host the Bash in the Boro presented by SpringHill Suites Thursday through Saturday in Old Hanner Gym. The five-team tournament starts on Thursday at 5 p.m. with S.C. State vs Georgia State.
The return home could not have come at a better time for the Eagles, who are looking to snap a six-match losing streak. GSU opens the Bash in the Boro against Presbyterian at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles play once on Friday against Ohio at 7 p.m. and twice on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Bash in the Boro finale is a 6 p.m. match between in-state foes Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
Setter Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) has moved into third place on the career assists leaderboard with 2,786 in her three-year career at Georgia Southern. Van Dyke has tallied 404 assists this season, but the Eagles are hitting under .200 for the year. Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) leads the team with 132 kills and 3.38 kills per set, while Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) leads the team in blocks with 28.
The defense is averaging nearly 16 digs per set and has two players with over 100 digs on the year. Lauren LaRocque (Frisco, Texas) leads the squad with 164 digs, while Moriah Bellissimo (Blackstone, Va.) has 102 and Sanford 98.
