SoCon Coaches Pick Volleyball Fourth in South Division

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Georgia Southern volleyball team has been picked fourth in the South Division in a preseason coaches’ poll released by the Southern Conference Monday.

First-year head coach Chad Callihan returns six letterwinners and welcomes eight newcomers for the 2008 season. The Eagles received 37 points in the poll.

Seven-time defending champion Charleston tops the South with 11 first-place votes and 66 points. Furman is second with 55 points and a first-place nod, followed by Davidson (44), Georgia Southern, Wofford (25) and The Citadel (19).

UNC Greensboro received 10 first-place votes and 65 points to lead the North Division. They are followed by Appalachian State (53 points, one first-place vote) Elon (41, 1), Samford (39), Chattanooga (32) and Western Carolina (16).

With the addition of Samford to the SoCon, volleyball will return to divisional play for the 2008 season.
