Eagles Seek Victory Over Cougars in Championship Match
“Tomorrow will be an exciting match,” said Eagle volleyball head coach Chad Callihan. “We have a great deal of respect for the Charleston program and know that any victory will have to be earned as they will give us nothing.”
GSU opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over tournament host Appalachian State. The Eagles, who earned a No. 2 seed in the South Division, turned in a stellar blocking performance versus the Mountaineers, tallying 16 total blocks to hold ASU to a .067 hitting percentage in the match.
Georgia Southern continued to roll on Saturday, defeating Elon 3-1 in the semifinal round with another impressive defensive performance – 15 blocks and 75 digs – to improve to 26-8 heading into the championship match.
The Cougars, the top overall seed in the tournament, swept Davidson 3-0 in the opening round, advancing to face and defeat UNC Greensboro 3-1 in Saturday’s semifinals.
“I'm excited for our girls to make the most of their opportunity and I know they will be ready to compete in a great championship match,” Callihan added.
