Bellissimo Named Capital One Academic All-District
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern volleyball outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo has been named Capital One Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced today. The senior advances to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America honors.
Bellissimo is averaging 2.81 kills and 3.06 digs per set and has started all 26 matches she has played in this season. She is also third on the team in blocks (47) and service aces (25).
The four-year letterwinner has played in 117 matches and collected 734 kills, 1,114 digs, 195 blocks, 182 assists and 79 aces. She is president of the Georgia Southern Student Athlete Advisory Board and carries a 4.0 grade point average in nutrition food science. The 2012 Georgia Southern female Scholar Athlete of the Year is also a two-time SoCon All-Academic selection and a three-time member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.
Georgia Southern (22-6, 13-1 SoCon) caps the regular season with two matches at home this weekend. The Eagles host Furman Friday at 6 p.m. and Wofford Saturday at 7 p.m. Victories in both matches will give Georgia Southern its first regular-season SoCon South Division title since 2003 and the third in school history.
