Volleyball Competes at Lobo Invitational This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern volleyball team heads out to New Mexico to play three matches in the Lobo Invitational today and tomorrow. The Eagles will take on New Mexico, UC Santa Barbara and Portland in Albuquerque, beginning with the host Lobos tonight at 9:30 p.m. (Eastern).

The Eagles own a 5-2 record, have won their last three and their only losses of the campaign have come against SEC opponents Georgia and Auburn. GSU is coming off a 3-0 win over Mercer in the home opener last Tuesday.

New Mexico (7-1) has won six in a row and won the Tiger Invitational at Savannah State last weekend. UCSB (5-3) went 2-1 at its own tournament last weekend and split a pair of midweek matches against Portland State (W, 3-1) and Oregon (L, 1-3). Portland (4-3) went 3-0 at the Nike Portland Invitational last weekend.

Georgia Southern hosts its own tournament, the SpringHill Suites Eagle Invitational, in Hanner Fieldhouse beginning next Thursday. The Eagles will open play in that tournament with a 7 p.m. contest against South Alabama. Georgia Southern also hosts Wisconsin Sept. 14, and Savannah State and Jacksonville Sept. 15.
