App State Blanks Volleyball 3-0
The Mountaineers, who had their 11-match winning streak snapped on Friday, improves to 18-13 overall and 14-4 in the Southern Conference. The Eagles fall to 10-19 and 7-10.
"We fought hard," said GSU head coach Nicole McCray. "our girls never gave up and made app state work for every point."
App State fell behind 12-8 early on but took the lead on a 6-0 run. They maintained the lead and closed out the game with a 12-3 rally.
In game two, the Mountaineers led 12-6 but five straight points by the Eagles narrowed the margin to one. GSU was never able to overcome the deficit and a 9-3 run by ASU put the Apps up 2-0.
The final frame was all Appalachian State. The Mountaineers took control of a one-point game with a 9-3 rally and cruised to the win. The Eagles hit -.152 in the third game.
Junior Bianca Julio (Curitiba, Brazil) led the GSU offense with 10 kills, and added nine digs and three blocks. Senior Flavia Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) paced the defense with 14 digs.
App State’s Lauren Swecker had seven kills and a .467 hitting percentage and the Mountaineers placed three players in double-figure kills.
The Eagles close out the regular season Sunday with a match at Davidson.
