Three GSU Jumpers Qualify for NCAA Regional Competition
CONWAY, S.C. Three Georgia Southern triple jumpers had NCAA Regional qualifying jumps at the Shamrock Invitational on Saturday, as the Eagles concluded competition at the CCU Track in Conway.
GSU jumpers Lynndsey Hyter (Dallas, Texas), Shaunta Hamilton (Macon, Ga.) and Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) finished first, second and third respectively in the triple jump. Hyter leaped 40’09.50” to earn the title, while Hamilton jumped 40’08.75 and Anthony recorded a mark of 40’07.75”. Hyter also claimed the long jump crown with a distance of 19’10.75”, while Hamilton finished third and Anthony finished fifth. Anthony also placed third in the 100m with a time of 12.00.
“I am really happy with the way we competed today,” said GSU coach Natalie Smith. “This is the earliest in the season that we have had three Regional qualifiers in one event and I am really proud of the way they performed.”
Junior Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) turned in a 13th place finish in the 400m dash posting a time of 57.69. Kristin Olson (Senoia, Ga.) earned a 10th place finish in the 400m hurdles recording a time of 1:04.45.
Georgia Southern returns to action Thursday, March 27, when they head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Alabama Relays. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
