STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Track & Field travels to Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invitational for its final meet of the indoor season before the Southern Conference Championships later this month. Twenty-one women will compete in 11 events with 10 qualifying for invitational events. More than 1,300 student-athletes will compete in this weekend’s events that begin today, Friday, Febuary 8th and conclude Saturday, February 9th. This will be the second trip to Clemson for the Eagles as they opened the 2012-13 season at the Orange and Purple Classic in December.
“This is the last meet of the season before we go into the indoor championships so we are excited about this, and we like to get ready with some fast times, sharpen up a bit and work on some of the small things,“ said Eagle Head Track & Field Coach Marlo Mincey. “Our team has competed at this track alot, and really know this track, they like this track, and having that confidence at this time of the year is something you really want.”
Last weekend at the Hilton Garden Invitational, several Eagles posted personal bests at the same facility that will be used for the Southern Conference Championships, the JDL Fast Track. Deanna Edwards set a personal best points total in the Pentathlon and reduced her time in the 400m Run. Alyssa Felton will compete in two events this weekend after seeing personal bests in the 60m Dash and the Long Jump, while Taylor Johnson made strides in her High Jump performance and added distance in the Shot Put.
Freshman Jami Joyner ran her top time in the one mile run and will race in that event again at Clemson, and Keyanna Harris looks to improve her High Jump performance this weekend after setting a personal best last weekend in North Carolina.
