Eagles Wrap Up ITA Southeast Regional Championships

ATLANTA, GA – Closing out competition at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, Melanie Rolle of the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team captured a consolation victory over FAMU’s Katherine Durden advancing to the Round of 16. Rolle fell in her second match of the day on the campus of Georgia Tech.

Picking up a victory to begin the morning, Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) crushed Durden in straight sets, moving to the Round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph. Rolle faced Shannon Gunning of Stetson in her second match, dropping a tight three-setter. Rebounding after falling in the first set, 6-2, Rolle forced a final set with a 6-3 second set win. Pushing Gunning to the wire, Rolle dropped a close third set, 6-4.

In other singles action, senior Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) suffered a loss to South Florida’s Ecaterina Vasenina, 6-1, 6-2. Challenging Christine Seredni of Florida International, junior Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) dropped a similar decision, 6-1, 6-2, rounding out play for Georgia Southern.

The Eagles return to the court and conclude their fall schedule at the Kennesaw Fall Classic, October 30-31.
