Women's Tennis Wins Top Flight Titles in Singles and Doubles

Elon, N.C. - The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team captured titles in the top flight for singles and doubles at the Elon Invitational on Sunday, and placed teams in the finals of four of five doubles flights at the weekend tournament in Elon, N.C. Sophomore Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) did not lose a set all weekend on her way to the A-1 Singles title, while also dominating on the doubles court with freshman partner Alexis Prickett (Charleston, S.C.) to win the A-1 Doubles title. The Eagles tandem of Alexandra Langmo (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Sydney Brown (Johns Creek, Ga.) went 3-0 on the weekend to win the B-2 Doubles title.

The Eagles went head-to-head against Elon opponents in both of the top flight finals. Garrido won her match 6-4, 6-4 over Bryn Khoury, while Garrido and Prickett defeated the team of Jordan Johnston and Maria Camara Ruiz 8-2.

Also advancing to the finals of their doubles flights this weekend were the tandems of Ali Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Mimi Bollaci (Atlanta, Ga.), who defeated teams from Campbell and Wingate on their way to a runner-up finish and Taylor Jones (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.), who defeated teams from North Carolina A&T and Wofford to earn runner-up honors.

"I am really proud of the way our team competed this weekend," said Head Coach Amy Bonner. "It was great to see the progress we've made over the past month, especially in our doubles play."

The Eagles will spend some time on the practice courts before traveling south to Gainesville, Fla. for the ITA Regional Oct. 21 - 24.
