Women's Tennis Finishes Strong Despite Slow Start at Thomasville Invitational

Statesboro, GA- Women’s Tennis finishes strong despite rough start to the Thomasville Invitational.

 

The Lady Eagles started out very slow as every player lost their first match of the day but all four players went on to win their second matches.

 

Sophomore Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) dropped her first match to Georgia State’s Kozmina, Dariana but came back to win her second match against Sonya Haggstrom of Valdosta State in straight sets(6-1 6-1).

 

Follow Sophomore Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) lost her first match of the day to ­­­­Suzanna Cavalcante (3-6 6-3 5-10). In her second match she defeated Katerina Gresova of Georgia State (7-5 6-4)

 

Junior Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) lost her first match to Kiara Powell of Georgia State  (4-6 4-6) and won her second match against Alexis Brown of Florida A&M (6-1 6-1)

 

Senior Molly Maddox (Rome, Ga.) was defeated by Georgia State’s Martina Nitkova (2-6, 1-6) in her first match. Maddox came back to take her second match against Kathleen Jordan of Florida A&M in straight sets (6-3, 6-5)

 

“After a tough first round I was glad to see everyone come a win in the second round,” Said Coach Bonner.

 

The Lady Eagles will face off one another in singles play starting at 11:30am as Beavers faces Kegerreis and Rolle faces Maddox to start day two and end the day with two rounds of doubles play.
