Georgia Southern Hosts Samford on Senior Day
“We are looking forward to our final match of the regular season facing Samford and hope to give our seniors a victory for their last time playing on their home court,” said head coach Amy Bonner. “Last season we lost to Samford 4-3 so we will be looking to turn it around this year and make it a win.”
Georgia Southern had a two-match win streak snapped by College of Charleston Wednesday (April 15). The Eagles fell 6-1 to the Cougars who won their 20th victory of the season. Georgia Southern was led by sophomore Melanie Rolle, who won her 13th match from the No.4 position, remaining undefeated, and pushed her win streak to 12-matches. Rolle is undefeated against SoCon opponents standing at 9-0 on the season.
Fellow classmate Ali Beavers boasts an 11-5 ledger from the two position, while senior Huxtable dropped only her second match at the sixth seed as she holds a 9-2 mark from No.6 thus far.
Samford, competing in the Southern Conference for the first year, comes into Saturday’s match with a 7-10, 4-4 mark. The Bulldogs will square off against College of Charleston on Friday before making the short trip to Statesboro on Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by Taylor Morgan at the top singles position. The sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla. has compiled a 10-7 record thus far in singles action.
Competing against the non-conference foe in 2008, Samford took a 4-3 decision over Georgia Southern in Atlanta, Ga. The Eagles will look to avenge the loss on Saturday’s senior day.
