Rain Suspends Play on Opening Day of Kennesaw State Invitational
Junior Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) grabbed a first round win over Angela McGahee of Murray State. Beavers took a close first set, 7-5, before taking the second by a 6-4 decision. Senior Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) crushed host Kennesaw State’s Alena Sergeychik, 6-1,6-0. Hungerford (Clearwater, Fla.), competing as a junior, garnered a straight-set victory over Ayano Tanaka, also of Kennesaw State. Hungerford captured the win with 6-3, 6-4 set decisions. The final Eagle to complete a match on the opening day, Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) dropped a third-set super tiebreaker to Cassidy Cunitz of Murray State. Rolle rebounded from dropping the first set, 6-3, to take the second, 7-5, and force a third set tiebreak. Rolle held strong, but fell, 10-8, as Cunitz secured the match win.
Allison Beeler, Jessica Fuller and Christine Caforio will all take the court at 8 a.m. Saturday to open the second day of play, weather permitting, after their matches were suspended.
