Women's Tennis Falls at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women’s tennis team gave Georgia State all it could handle, but fell to the Panthers on Sunday by a final of 5-2 in Atlanta, Ga.

Georgia State earned the doubles point sweeping the Eagles and gaining the early advantage. Georgia Southern’s freshmen tandem of Ali Beavers (Kingsport Tenn.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) edged Dariana Kozmina and Rachel Malina at the No. 2 position by a score of 8-7 (5).

“It was another good competitive day of competition,” said Georgia Southern women’s tennis coach Amy Bonner. It was a very close match and we came up short, but we’re going to keep fighting and competing. Eventually, these close ones (matches) will go our way.”

Beavers earned the first singles victory of her freshman campaign defeating Kiara Powell in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 from the No. 3 slot. Sophomore Jessica Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) notched her first singles victory of the 2008 season downing Kiera Strickland from the No. 6 position 7-6 (3), 7-5.
