Eagles to Close Homestand against Campbell

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Women’s Tennis team will close its three-game homestand while also looking to build its winning streak to three matches when it plays host to Campbell University on Tuesday afternoon. Play is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Hanner Tennis Complex.

The Eagles (4-4) are coming off a sweep in the rain-imposed Friday doubleheader against Western Carolina and Florida A&M. They sport a 2-1 record this season in Statesboro. The team has been led by the stellar play of Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain). She has posted a 7-1 record from the No. 1 singles position and 5-0 record from the No. 2 doubles position. Freshman Cameron Williams (Norcross, Ga.) has posted an impressive 5-3 singles record and 3-3 doubles record to begin her collegiate career. She has won two singles matches in a row and is joined in that regard by Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.). Alexis Prickett (Charleston, S.C.), Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Natalie Maffett (Rome, Ga.) are tied with Williams for second place on the team with three doubles victories.

Visiting Campbell University is 8-2 on the season. The Camels were regular season runners-up in the Atlantic Sun Conference last season before switching to the Big South Conference this year. The Eagles will look to even their 0-1 all-time record against the Camels as well as their 1-2 record against Big South opponents this season. Campbell adds to the impressive non-conference strength of schedule for the Eagles. The combined record of the four non-conference opponents to whom the Eagles have lost is a hefty 24-3.
