Eagles Begin Final Homestand Welcoming Chattanooga
Georgia Southern has taken six of the past seven matches entering Saturday’s contest. Furman snapped a five-match win streak the Eagles held on March 29 registering a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern. But the Eagles returned to winning ways with a taming of the Wofford Terriers (March 30), 6-1. Despite dropping the doubles point, Georgia Southern quickly rebounded in singles action earning victories at all six seeds to secure the SoCon victory and push its record to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in conference action.
Sophomore Melanie Rolle remains undefeated this dual season from the No.4 position. The Gainesville, Fla. native carries an 11-0 tally overall from the four seed with a perfect 7-0 record against SoCon opponents. Rolle looks to improve on a 10-match win streak she currently holds that dates back to February 14.
The Lady Mocs (5-11, 1-5) have dropped the last three conference match-ups to Furman, Davidson and Samford most recently. The Bulldogs recorded a 5-2 triumph over Chattanooga (April 1). The Lady Mocs registered singles victories at the five and six seeds, respectively. Jennemieke van der Veek boasts an 8-8 overall singles mark with a 4-4 ledger from the No. 2 seed for Chattanooga this season.
In 2008, Georgia Southern took a 5-2 contest over Chattanooga. The Eagles hold a six-match win streak over the Lady Mocs, last falling to Chattanooga in the 2002 season by a 6-1 margin in Statesboro.
