Women's Tennis Returns to Competition at Elon Invitational
STATESBORO, Ga. - Following a 19 day layoff between tournaments the Georgia Southern Women's Tennis returns to competition at the Elon Invitational. The Eagles are looking to build off a strong start to the fall schedule when they take the court Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Elon, N.C.
"The past couple of weeks since our Kennesaw Tournament we have spent working on different doubles pairings and strategy as well as fine tuning our singles play to be ready for this weekend," said Head Coach Amy Bonner.
Georgia Southern is looking to continue its strong start to the fall season and is looking for another strong showing from its six upperclassmen. Three of the Eagles five juniors won their singles flight in Kennesaw back in September, while sophomores Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Mimi Bollaci (Atlanta, Ga.) added two more flight wins.
"The Kennesaw Invitational and UNC Asheville Bulldog Open were good experiences for us. We gained a lot of confidence from having a number of girls in the finals," said Bonner.
GSU will also get a sneak peek at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center where they will play a March 26th match against Elon in the spring season. The Powell Center will host the women's tournament this weekend.
The Elon Invitational will feature the usual regional competition along with Elon, Western Carolina and Wofford from the SoCon. The tournament will feature three "A" flight draws and two "B" flight draws along with the same number doubles flights.
"This tournament features a lot of Southern Conference competition. We will get a sneak peek at how some of the SoCon schools look," said Bonner.
The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team has two more fall tournaments in October before wrapping up the fall season.
