Women?s Tennis Releases 2010-11 Schedule
“I am looking forward to the upcoming season and I feel that our fall schedule and early spring matches will prepare us well for our Southern Conference opponents,” said Head Coach Amy Bonner. “I’m also excited to host the SpringHill Suites Invitational on our home courts in October as part of our fall competition.”
The Eagles begin competition at the USC Upstate Invitational, September 17-19 and then prepare to host the SpringHill Suites Invitational, October 15-17. Georgia Southern will host a four-team field with Mercer, South Carolina State and Western Carolina competing in a three-day tournament.
At the conclusion of the SpringHill Suites Invitational, the Eagles will travel to Athens, Ga., for the ITA Regional, Oct. 22-25. The fall tournament portion of the schedule closes out at the Kennesaw State Invitational, Oct. 29-31.
The spring dual season opens in February with eight matches in the month, seven on the road. The Eagles open the season traveling to South Carolina State and USC Upstate Feb. 5 and 6, respectively. GS opens at home on Feb. 13 welcoming Hampton to the Hanner Tennis Complex for the only home match of the month. Following the lone home contest, the Eagles begin the longest road stretch of the season with five matches on the road.
The Eagles will challenge Kennesaw State, Savannah State and Georgia State before the start of SoCon action. After six non-conference matches, league play officially gets underway with a visit to Wofford on Feb. 26. GS will face Furman the following afternoon to conclude the road swing.
After nearly a month on the road, the Eagles return home for two matches against Florida Gulf Coast (March 9) and Stetson (March 10). A return to the road and conference play continues when the Eagles travel to Davidson, March 12, and Appalachian State, March 13. The non-conference portion of the schedule concludes with a trip to Hilton Head, S.C., to face Southern Illinois University Carbondale on March 18.
Georgia Southern then returns to the comfort of the Hanner Tennis Complex for a five-match homestand beginning with Elon on March 21. Non-conference play wraps up with Florida A&M on March 26 as the Eagles then play five straight SoCon matches. College of Charleston and Samford visit Statesboro the weekend of April 2, while UNC Greensboro rounds out the homestand on April 8.
Regular season action concludes with the Eagles on the road traveling to Western Carolina on April 10.
The Southern Conference tournament, resumed to a full participation level for 2011, will take place April 20-23 in Chattanooga.
