Eagles Set to Host Evansville and Appalachian State
The Eagles boast a 6-4 overall record this season and are 1-1 in Southern Conference action. Georgia Southern was to host first year conference foe Samford last weekend, along with USC Upstate, but due to inclement weather forecasts, both matches were postponed. In their last match, the Eagles routed Jacksonville University (Feb. 24), marking the first time in head coach Amy Bonner’s reign to record a victory over the Dolphins. Georgia Southern came out firing in the match, sweeping the doubles and taking four of six singles matches to secure the 5-2 victory.
The Evansville Aces enter Friday’s contest boasting a 6-3 overall mark having won their fourth straight match on Wednesday (March 4) over Western Carolina. The Aces took a 6-1 decision with the doubles point and five singles nods. Evansville has dropped matches this season only to Morehead State, Belmont and Murray State.
On Saturday, the Eagles will look to defend a 5-2 regular season victory over Appalachian State last year. The Eagles snatched the doubles point and had singles wins from the top three positions and the five seed to defeat the conference foe. The Mountaineers have had a rough start to their 2009 season, entering Saturday’s match with a 1-5 overall record; they face NC Central March 5 before heading to Statesboro. ASU’s lone victory of the season comes from a 6-1 win over Lees-McRae on Feb. 10.
