Women's Tennis Downs Appalachian State 5-2

BOONE, N.C. – Slight adjustments helped the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team notch their eighth victory of the season, as the Eagles ousted Appalachian State by a 5-2 decision on Monday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Courts in Boone. 

The Eagles (8-7, 2-3 SoCon) switched up their doubles lineup playing the freshmen tandem of Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) at the No. 1 seed. The duo registered their 11th victory of the season defeating the Mountaineers Mallory Cook and Anja Gugger by a final of 8-2. Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) and Christine Caforio (Acworth, Ga.) cruised by Appalachian State’s tandem of Heather Prior and Monica Thomas winning by a score of 8-2.

GSU tallied four singles victories helping them earn their second SoCon victory of the season. Beavers recorded her 11th singles victory of the season downing Thomas from the No. 3 position in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Rolle earned her 10th dual victory of the year taking down Prior 6-4, 6-3, while Kegerreis dropped Gugger 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 1 seed. Caforio was successful from the No. 5 slot defeating Elizabeth Holland 3-6, 6-4, 14-12.

Georgia Southern returns to the hard-courts Saturday, March 29, as they play host to Davidson. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
