Swimming & Diving Team Falls at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team was upended at Davidson losing 166-127 on Friday night in Davidson, N.C.

With the loss, The Eagles fall to (2-1, 1-1) on the season, while Davidson improves (1-2, 1-0). It was Davidson’s first-ever conference meet in the newly formed Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.

Two Georgia Southern swimmers were double event winners on the evening with sophomore Courtney Martz (Woobine, Ga.) taking titles in the 100 yard backstroke and 400 freestyle relay, while teammate Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada) posted victories in the 400 yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Martz also finished the meet with two second place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. She finished with a time of 59.60 in the 100 backstroke event.

Eagles’ sophomore Courtney McCarthy picked up a victory in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:45.73. The Savannah, Ga. native raced strong all evening posting a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, while participating in the 400 yard medley relay and the 100 yard breastroke.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow as they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to square off against CCSA opponents Campbell and Howard. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
