SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its 2007-2008 Academic Honor Roll which included twelve members of the swimming and diving team. They are Caroline Bevillard, Kimberly Morris, Ali Campbell, Jennifer Clayton, Katie Creighton, Meredith Fehr, Kristen Haudenschild, Nikki Hutchison, Rachel Sale, Britney Simons, Cassandra Smith and Katelyn Woolfolk.

Freshman Caroline Bevillard and Senior Kimberly Morris earned a 4.0 GPA for the year. Katie Creighton and Ali Campbell just missed out on a perfect score. Creighton earned a 3.9 GPA and Campbell earned a 3.8.

Coach Kellog had this to say about his team's academic performance, "We certainly stress the importatnce of working hard in the pool and in the classroom. Our team understands that you can't have one or the other - both are necessary. I am very proud of what they have accomplished and how hard they have worked to achieve them."

To be included on the Southern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll Georgia Southern’s student-athletes have to first participate in varsity level sports and then earn a 3.0 or higher grade point average, while passing a minimum of 24 hours worth of classes for the year.

This years’ honor roll saw four of the conference’s 11 member institutions set new school records. Georgia Southern was one of those four schools setting a new record and also had eleven student-athletes earn a perfect score in the classroom with a GPA of 4.0 for the year.

The Academic Honor Roll was established by the Southern Conference’s athletic directors for the 1988 athletic year as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. While only 364 student-athletes where placed on the honor roll the first year, the honor roll has increased in 13 of the 17 subsequent years. This year saw more than 1,600 student-athletes make the list, setting a new high for the conference. The average GPA of the Southern Conferences Academic Honor Roll student athletes was a 3.44.
