Swimming & Diving Loses a Close One to Davidson 123-118

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team (5-7) lost a close 123-118 dual meet to CCSA foe Davidson (3-6) Saturday afternoon at the RAC.

The meet saw eight pool records fall with each team breaking four. The Lady Eagles also had eight first place finishes.

"We had some very strong performances today all around, which was a bit unexpected,” said head coach Nathan Kellogg. It says a lot about our team members and how hard we've been training to take the defending CCSA champions down to the wire, especially being so tired and worn down.”

Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) had an outstanding day of competition setting pool records in two events. She won the 50 freestyle and set a new pool record with a time of 24.10. Martz also finished third in the 100 yard free.

She was also a member of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed first with a time of 3:34.60 and set a new pool record in the event. Other relay members include Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.), Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta) and Katelyn Woolfolk (Satellite Beach, Fla.).

The day was also a good one on the boards as Katie Creighton (Snellville, Ga.) finished first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 227.02 and second in the 1-meter dive.

Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) helped put the Lady Eagles in a favorable position in the 400 yard medley relay when she led off with a new pool record time of 58.94 in what amounts to the 100 yard backstroke. The Wildcats, however, would be the ones to set the record in the event as they finished the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:59.63.

Goodman had a fine day in the backstroke events and also placed first in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:07.41.

Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.) also had a first place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke and touched the wall with a time of 2:28.41.

“It's always disappointing when we perform like we did today and not come away with a win at home, but I'm very proud of our team for their collective effort," said Kellogg.

The Lady Eagles return to the action Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. where they will face North Florida at 2:00 p.m. in the Aquatic Center.
