Meisenhelder Headed to NCAA Zone Diving Championships
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern diver Sara Meisenhelder is headed to the NCAA Zone Diving that is held on Monday and Tuesday March 11-12. The event is hosted by University of Tennessee at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. and will feature 39 of the top divers from various conferences in the “B” zone who will have an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Meisenhelder is set to compete in the one and three-meter diving events. The three-meter preliminaries and finals are on Monday at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., followed by the one-meter prelims and finals at 11: a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Only 18 divers qualify for finals in each event.
The junior qualified for the meet in January with a school and pool record breaking one-meter dive score of 281.70 against Darton at the Recreation Activity Center in Statesboro, Ga. and is the only Eagle to ever compete at Zones.
“Sara has had a very successful season. She the increased the school record on the one-meter by 15-plus points and in doing so, she qualified for the NCAA zone meet,” said Diving Coach David Giambra. “I am proud of her accomplishments and looking forward to watching her compete with the best divers in the southeast.”
Meisenhelder finished second in the three-meter dive at the CCSA Championships as well as third in the one-meter dive. She also set a new school record for the three-meter dive as a sophomore in 2012.
