Eagles Clinch Meet after Winning Final Event
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Georgia Southern Swimming team (7-3) handed Gardner-Webb (3-1) their first dual meet loss on Friday evening in Boiling Springs, N.C. taking home the win with a score of 104-101. The 400 Free Relay team outraced the Runnin’ Bulldogs to claim the final points needed for the win.
Kylee Parsons, Christina Moran, Becca Alves and Elaina Lanson teamed up to win the final event of the day with a 3:34.14 finish, good for a new pool record.
After placing second in the 400 Medley Relay, the Eagles won three straight. Amber Juncker started off that streak in the 400 IM (4:35.13). Parsons added a first place finish of her own in the 200 Free finishing in 1:55.29 followed by Lanson who won her first event of the day, finishing the 50 Free in 24.41.
The Eagles were able to sweep the top three in the 400 Medley when Rikki Babuka (4:39.79) and Lindsay Mullican (4:40.13) finished third and fourth respectively.
The next five events became a back and fourth battle as the Runnin’ Bulldogs claimed the 200 IM, Fly and Back while the Eagles took home the 100 and 500 Free. Lanson and Parson once again showed dominance in freestyle events, claiming wins in the 100 Free (Lanson, 53.67) and 500 Free (Parsons, 5:09.63).
The Eagles claimed number two finishes in both those events as well with Devan White finishing right behind Lanson in 54.58 and Juncker touching the plate a few seconds after Parsons in 5:11.07.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs went into the final event ahead of the Eagles thanks to Charity Byrum’s win in the 200 Breast but were not able to hold onto their lead and allowed the Eagles to claim the win.
The Eagles will be hitting the water again tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they take on Davidson, Liberty, Howard, North Carolina A&T and Radford at Davidson, N.C.
