Swimming and Diving Wins Two Dual Meets, Improves to 3-0
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team won 11 events to post dual meet victories over the Savannah College of Art & Design (169.50-102.50) and Davis & Elkins (207-29) Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Activity Center. The two wins improved the Eagles' record to 3-0 in dual meets on the young season.
Christina Moran won the 100 back (58.10) and was just shy of the pool record set last week by College of Charleston's Sarah Boyle (57.96). Moran also swam a lifetime best of 2:05.45 to win the 200 back and help the Eagles sweep the event as Meg Beasley (2:12.02) and Becca Alves (2:12.59) finished second and third.
Amanda Macchio (right) won her first career diving event by posting a personal best score of 236.77 on the 1-meter board. The junior also had a personal best on the 3-meter board (235.87). Sara Meisenhelder took first on the 3-meter board (249.97) and second on the 1-meter board (230.47).
Elaina Lanson won the 50 free (23.68) and 100 free (52.31) and swam the freestyle leg (23.70 split) of the of the 200 medley relay, which finished first.
Kristen Bates took first in the 100 breast (1:04.86), placed second in the 200 breast (2:26.42) and swam the breaststroke leg (29.89 split) of the 200 medley relay.
Amber Juncker won the 1000 free (10:37.64), and Rikki Babuka won the 200 breast (2:25.91). Kylee Parsons won the 500 free (5:10.88) and was second in the 200 free (1:56.99).
Megan Heller was second in the 100 fly (59.95) and the 50 free (25.32) and swam the fly leg (26.69 split) of the 200 medley relay.
"We were much more consistent this week compared to the season opener last week, and for the most part, everybody improved their times," said Georgia Southern coach Nate Kellogg.
The Eagles have a few weeks off before they compete in the Wingate Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 16-18.
