Eagles Swimming & Diving Extends Dual Meet Winning Streak to Seven
STATESBORO, Ga. The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team extended their dual meet winning streak to seven on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles downed Savannah College of Art & Design and New Orleans at the Aquatics Center at the Recreation Activities Center.
GSU defeated SCAD 83-57 and New Orleans 116-24. It was Georgia Southern’s second of four consecutive home meets.
"Today was a pretty good day,” said coach Nathan Kellogg. “We wanted to get up, race hard, dive well, and have fun. We're pretty tired, sore, and banged up, but we did a nice job of racing."
Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore Ashley White. The Charlotte, N.C. native posted individual wins in the 100 and 200 breast events with times of 1:08.97 and 2:30.31 respectively. She was also a member of the 200 medley relay team which placed first. Sophomore Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) notched three wins for the second consecutive meet as she earned victories in the 100 back, 200 back (tie) and 200 medley relay.
Georgia Southern had two divers post first place finishes. Juniors Katie Creighton (Snellville, Ga.) and Nikki Hutchison (Kennesaw, Ga.) earned victories in the 1-and-3 meter diving events with scores of 190.95 and 213.30. Creighton finished second in the 3-meter event.
Freshman Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) was a double event winner on the afternoon, helping the 200 medley relay place first and tied with Martz in the 200 back event. Senior Amanda Gerdeman (Jacksonville, Fla.) and junior Katelyn Woolfolk (Satellite Beach, Fla.) each picked up first place finishes. Gerdeman was a member of the 200 medley relay and Woolfolk placed first in the 100 free.
The Eagles are back in the pool next Saturday as they host conference foes Campbell and Florida Gulf Coast. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
