Softball Sweeps Florida A&M for Fourth Straight Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Softball (4-2) swept Florida A&M (3-4) 9-3, 9-0 in Tuesday’s doubleheader at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex. The Eagles combined for 25 hits in the two games. Georgia Southern has won its fourth straight game since dropping the opening day doubleheader to Troy (Feb. 13).

“We got off the bus and started a little slow. After we talked about it, we started hitting the ball and were able to maintain that all the way through,” said head coach Maggie Johnson. “We had a lot of different people out there, and they took advantage of the opportunity.”

Robyne Siliga (Oceanside, Calif.) went five for seven and drove in three runs in the doubleheader.

Freshman Hillary Martin (Cumming, Ga.) picked up the win in relief, pitching four plus innings while allowing only two hits. She combined with Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) for a four hitter.

“Pitching was good,” said Johnson. “We were able to get everybody in there and get them some experience.”

The Eagles loaded the bases in the second inning after Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) walked but managed only one run taking an early 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers took the lead back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out two RBI single by Tara Vincent.

Softball extended its lead with four straight singles in the fifth, scoring two runs. Amanda Glover drove in Bethany Crenshaw (Warner Robins, Ga.) for the first run of the inning. Jordyn Nail (Swainsboro, Ga.) followed Glover with her first RBI of the season.

Georgia Southern scored three more runs in the sixth extending its lead to 8-2. Sam Russo (Snellville, Ga.) and Amanda Glover had back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning.
