Eagle Softball Falls at Samford Sunday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Georgia Southern) - The Eagle Softball team fell 7-2 at Samford Sunday (April 18), dropping the series two games to one. Samford (13-26, 4-11 Southern Conference) scored the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, capped off by Kayla Shaffer's two-RBI single.
Junior Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) pulled the Eagles (21-21, 7-7 SoCon) within a run when she hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. Smith regained the lead in SoCon with her 14th home run of 2010.
The Bulldogs extended the lead back to three with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of Aaren Fisher. Samford added two more runs in the sixth to take the game and the series.
Senior shortstop Nina Iduate (Norcross, Ga.) went 2-for-3, bringing her league-leading season total to 62. Andrea Tarashuk (Flemington, N.J.), Alexa Lewis (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Kelly Burnett (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Hanna Ennis (Snellville, Ga.) and each added singles.
Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) gave up five runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 4.1 innings. Streetmon is now 15-9 on the season. Amanda Barrs improved to 2-13 on the season, holding the Eagles to two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.1 innings of work.
