Softball Faces Elon in SoCon Series
The set starts with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Georgia Southern (21-21, 3-3) returns to action after its longest sabbatical of the season, going six days between games, the most recent being a 4-3 win Sunday vs. Charleston to end a four-game losing streak.
Elon (15-14, 4-2) comes into the weekend losers of five of their last six outings and dropped a three-game series at home to Furman last weekend. The Phoenix currently stand alone in third place in the league standings, one game ahead of the Eagles.
The month of March was kind to GSU at the start with five straight wins but the Eagles have gone 5-11 since then, including two four-game losing streaks.
Offensively the team continues to be led by junior Robyne Siliga, the SoCon’s Player of the Month for March. She hit .429 with four homers and 18 RBI last month while becoming the school’s all-time home run leader. She ranks first in the league in walks (25), total bases (75) and RBI (38).
Thanks in part to Siliga, GSU paces the conference in average (.288), runs (194) and hits (329).
The Eagles also boast the league’s top pitching staff, owing the top team ERA (2.07).
