Softball Falls to College of Charleston in the Rubber Game of the Series

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Georgia Southern softball team (8-12, 1-2) dropped the rubber game of the series 4-0 to the College of Charleston Sunday.

Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) had a stellar week of play picking up her second double in the fourth inning. Fogle picked up her first career hit with a homer Tuesday and batted .417 with two doubles and a home run this week.

The Eagles’ best opportunity came in the fourth when they loaded the bases with no outs on two hits and a walk. Hanna Ennis (Snellville, Ga.) led off the inning with an infield base hit. Fogle followed Ennis with a double down the left field line moving Ennis to third, but three straight outs including a play at the plate ended the inning.

Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) appeared in all three games in the conference opening series against the Cougars. She got the starting nod Sunday and held College of Charleston to single runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.

The Cougars got on the board in the first inning on Shannon Howard’s RBI double. Howard went three for three with three RBIs Sunday.

Terri Mesko pitched a complete game shutout allowing only four hits in her second start of the weekend.

Softball returns home for the SoCon home opener against Appalachian State this weekend. First pitch in Saturday’s doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
