Softball Opens SoCon at the College of Charleston

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team (7-10) opens Southern Conference play in Charleston, S.C. against the College of Charleston (4-10). The Eagles will play a doubleheader Saturday, and a single game Sunday. First pitch for both Saturday and Sunday is set for 1 p.m.

The Eagles are 1-3 so far this week after splitting a doubleheader Tuesday against Jacksonville and dropping two to North Florida Thursday.

Georgia Southern continues to lead the conference in batting average (.288), slugging (.453) and home runs (13). Freshman Hanna Ennis (Snellville, Ga.) leads the league in hits with 22.

Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) has been pitching lights out this season. She is second in the league in ERA (2.15) and first in opposing batting average (.206).

The Eagles are 31-19 all-time against the Cougars and are 27-22 in conference-opening series. Georgia Southern has faced College of Charleston twice in the opening weekend of conference play and is 4-3 against them.

The Cougars enter conference play with a three-game losing streak after dropping the first and only game played in the rain-shortened N.C. State Wolfpack Challenge last Friday.

College of Charleston's offense ranks in the bottom third of the conference with a .215 batting average and last in runs scored.

Softball continues conference play next weekend against Appalachian State at Eagle Field. First pitch in the series is set for 1 p.m.
