STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Soccer team plays host to Coastal Carolina on Sunday, September 19, at Eagle Field at 3 p.m.
The Eagles enter the contest with a 2-4-0 record after a pair of road losses at the Samford Invitational last weekend, Sept. 10 and 12.
Junior Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) leads the Eagles and is tied for eighth in the Southern Conference with three goals on the season, while three others have scored at least once, including freshman Alex Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio), who has a goal and an assist.
Freshman Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) has started four games at goalkeeper for the Eagles, appearing in all six matches, and has 19 saves on the season, 10th in the league.
Coastal Carolina comes in with a 4-4-0 record after knocking off Clemson 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 17. The Chanticleers are led by Anna Tupy and Hannah Brown, each of whom has scored a pair of goals and an assist.
Jessica Barton handles the goalkeeping duties for Coastal Carolina. She has played nearly 550 minutes in seven games with 29 saves and 15 goals allowed.
This will be just the third meeting between the two programs. Georgia Southern won the first match with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 24, 2004, and Coastal Carolina won 3-1 in 2005.
Following the match the men's and women's soccer programs are teaming up to put on a Little Eagles Skills Clinic. The clinic will feature players from both programs teaching children, under the age of 14, different drills.
