Women’s Soccer Hosts Samford and Chattanooga This Weekend
STATESBORO, Ga. – Conference play opens on Friday for Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer as defending SoCon Champion Samford comes to Statesboro on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Eagles close the opening weekend of league play on Sunday afternoon against Chattanooga from Eagle Field at 2 p.m.

The Eagles closed non-conference play last week with a 1-1 draw at Charleston Southern to post a 4-1-3 mark entering the league season. Sydnie Van Curen has three goals for Georgia Southern while three other players have posted two scores. Courtney Collins along with the freshman pair of Nora El-Shami and Stephanie Gratto has two goals each.
In the corresponding fixtures last season, the Eagles took a 2-1 win at Chattanooga before falling 1-0 to the Bulldogs. That loss last year at Samford snapped a five match winning streak.
Samford enters league play with a 3-5 record with their most recent victory coming on September 9th, a 3-1 win over Kentucky. The Bulldogs have dropped consecutive 2-1 defeats at the hands of Kennesaw State and Jacksonville in the last week. Kayley Blanton has three goals for Samford, while Amanda Abbott has been the in-form attacker, scoring goals in each of the last two contests.
Chattanooga opens league play against Davidson before traveling to Statesboro for Sunday’s match. The Mocs are 2-3-1 on the year with a win over Tennessee Temple to open the year and a victory against Gardner-Webb last Friday to close non-conference play. Becca Smith has three goals to lead the Chattanooga offense with two scores coming in the last three matches.
