Eagles Travel to UNC Greensboro, Sunday

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women’s soccer team will battle Southern Conference co-leader UNC Greensboro, Sunday afternoon.  The match-up is slated for 2 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

The Eagles (2-7-1, 1-1-1) are looking to bounce back after a recent 2-0 loss at Charleston (Oct. 4) and will try and snap the Spartans’ school-record, 16-game unbeaten streak dating back to Sep. 24, 2006.  UNCG claims a 6-3-1 overall record, while remaining undefeated in conference play at 3-0-0.  The Spartans recently defeated Chattanooga by a 4-1 decision (Oct. 4).

The two teams have met on 11 occasions with the Spartans claiming an 8-3 advantage.  The last time the two teams played, UNCG edged host GSU by a 1-0 margin (Oct. 8, 2006).  The last time the Eagles defeated the Spartans was back in 2002, edging UNCG by a 3-2 advantage at home.

Georgia Southern is led on offense by junior Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) with eight points on four winners.  Audrey Brown (Fort Worth, Texas) follows with two goals and one assist, while defender Heather Smith (Kingwood, Texas) has one goal and a team-high two assists.

The Spartans’ Kristin Player leads the team with 17 points, including a team-high seven goals and three assists.  Kelly Attayek follows with eight points on three goals and two assists.
