Women's Soccer Defeats Gardner-Webb 2-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Georgia Southern women’s soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb.

Georgia Southern attempted only four shots, compared to Gardner-Webb’s 14, but made the most of them by placing two in the net.

Danae Kaimuloa scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Ashley Toussaint. Kaimuloa took the pass and kicked it into the right corner of the net, giving Georgia Southern a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of play. She finished the game with two shots, a goal and an assist.

Sara Oland put the game out of reach in the 54th minute, with her long shot that found the back of the net.

Lauren Santos played the whole game in the cage and tallied seven saves and a shutout.

Ashley Toussaint, who was voted to the preseason All-SoCon team, had a shot on goal and an assist.

The game was the season opener for both teams.

Georgia Southern travels to Northern Illinois to take place in the NIU tournament Friday and will play Northern Iowa in the first of two games. The action is set to take place at 2:00 pm.
