Cross Country Runs at Charleston Dual Meet
CHARLESTON, S.C. The Georgia Southern cross country team used senior Abby Bloom’s (Snellville, Ga.) 11th place finish to help the Eagles earn several victories in the Charleston Dual Meet held at James Island County Park on Friday evening.
The Eagles beat Charleston Southern (20-37), Savannah State (17-42) and South Carolina State (17-40), and lost in the dual meet to the College of Charleston (15-50) and The Citadel (18-43).
Bloom finished the 5K event with a time of 20:19. Sophomore Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) came across the finish line in 16th place and a time of 21:22. In 20th place and a time of 21:59 was freshman Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.). Right behind Lee was Junior Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) in 22nd place crossing the finish line with a time of 22:09.
Also running for the Eagles was a trio of sophomores Kellie Wesson (Douglasville, Ga.), Katie Abercrombie (Newnan, Ga.) and Meredith Lee (Kennesaw, Ga.) finishing with times of 23:47, 24:23 and 25:04 respectively.
“We looked tired today, but mentally we’re ready,” said coach Natalie Smith. “Having a break this coming week will really help us prepare for the meet at Georgia and will give us time to rest.”
Georgia Southern has a week off before heading to Athens, Ga. to compete in a meet hosted by the University of Georgia.
