Cross Country Prepares for SoCon Championships

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern cross country team is set to run in the 27th Southern Conference Championships on Saturday, October 29 at 10:45 a.m. in Charleston, S.C. This will be the second trip to the Trophy Lakes Course on Johns Island this season. Samford is the two-time defending conference champion.

The 2011 season has been a record breaking one for the Eagles. Five of the top-10 best times in school history for the 5K have been set this season. Freshman Rebecca Greenwall (Bogart, Ga.) ran the second fastest time (18:38.80) in Georgia Southern history two weeks ago at the Royal Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. Twin sister Rachel Greenwall (Bogart, Ga.) owns the third fastest time in school history (18:41.90) and junior Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) owns three top-10 times, two of which were set this season.

The Eagles have posted two third place finishes this year and look to carry the momentum from a record breaking meet in Charlotte, where several runners posted personal best times.

"I was really happy for the breakthrough we had at the Royal Challenge two weeks ago," said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "Since then we have worked on being mentally prepared for the conference championships and getting everyone to believe in themselves and their teammates."

Former runner Brittney Swick set the Georgia Southern top time for a SoCon Championship in 2002 when she finished 16th with a time of 18:49.00.
