Lady Eagles Travel to Davidson Saturday Afternoon

STATESBORO, GA – The Georgia Southern women’s basketball team will travel to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Davidson Wildcats in a Southern Conference game Saturday afternoon. Davidson stands atop the conference standings, remaining undefeated in conference play; Georgia Southern is fourth in the league. The game will mark the 34th time the two teams have met. Tip-off is slated for a 2 pm start at John M. Belk Arena.

Georgia Southern enters the game with a 9-6 overall record and 4-2 conference tally after a 55-46 loss against Samford Monday night (Jan. 5). J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) led the Eagles with a career-best 17 points. Davidson is currently 7-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play after a 61-55 overtime win over UNC Greensboro Monday afternoon.  Mercedes Robinson led the Wildcats, scoring 17 points and pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds. The double-double marked her fourth straight.

The Eagles are led in scoring by Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.), averaging 13.5 points per game. Ogburn is second in scoring with 9.5 points per game.

Ogburn is the team’s leading rebounder, grabbing 5.7 rebounds per game. She is followed closely by Jessica Geiger (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who averages 5.5 boards per game.

Davidson is led by Robinson, who averages 14.3 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per contest. Robinson is third in the league in scoring and leads the league in rebounding. She is followed by Ashley Lax, who averages 12.1 points per game.

Davidson enters the game on Saturday having won 24 of its past 29 overall games on its home court. Georgia Southern leads the series between the teams, 17-16. However, the last win Georgia Southern recorded against Davidson dates back to March 7, 2003 when the Lady Eagles defeated the Wildcats, 62-57, in the Southern Conference tournament. The last recorded regular season win over Davidson was on February 24, 2003. Georgia Southern defeated Davidson 77-61 in Statesboro.
