Eagles Host Terriers for Pack the House in Pink
Georgia Southern (15-11, 10-7) avenged a loss and completed a sweep defeating College of Charleston and Furman this past weekend. The Lady Eagles dominated the Cougars on Saturday (Feb. 13) for a convincing 52-41 win and continued the impressive play Monday night with a 56-46 decision over the Paladins.
Scoring 11.4 points per game on average, senior Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) continues to pace the Lady Eagles’ offense. She is followed by fellow senior J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) who is second on the team in scoring (10.1 ppg) and rebounding (4.8 rpg). Jessica Geiger (Stone Mountain, Ga.) leads the team on the glass, securing 5.2 boards per game.
Meanwhile, Wofford (6-18, 4-12) enters the contest after falling to College of Charleston at home, 65-51 (Feb. 15). Mahagony Williams led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Williams paces the team on the season, scoring 10.8 points per game and pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game.
GS leads the all-time series advantage, 25-3, and leads in Statesboro, 10-2. The Lady Eagles took the first decision of the 2009-2010 season in Spartanburg, S.C., 58-56 and will look to complete the regular season sweep on Saturday.
Following Saturday’s afternoon contest, GS hits the road to face Davidson on Monday night (Feb. 22). The Wildcats (12-13, 10-7) host College of Charleston on Saturday and seek to halt a three-game losing streak. Davidson recently fell to Chattanooga, 65-54 in Tennessee. Alex Thompson leads the team with a 13.0 ppg average and recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark with 16 at Chattanooga to push her to 1,003 points for her career. The Wildcats are 6-3 at home and winners of three of their last five.
Davidson holds the all-time series advantage, 19-17 and took the first meeting this season, 68-50. The Wildcats also hold the advantage when playing on their home court, 9-7.
Tip in Hanner Fieldhouse on Saturday is slated for noon and 7 p.m. at Davidson on Monday night (Feb. 22). Pack the House in Pink T-shirts will be thrown out at media timeouts during both games. Also in support of Pack the House in Pink, the University Store has been running a 20% off all pink t-shirts sale that runs through closing on Saturday. The ZTA sorority will be on site selling t-shirts, while the Phi Mu sorority will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets with the winner being announced at halfime. At halftime, Southern Explosion kids camp will take place, while Rocket Stars will perform at halftime of the men’s game.
All proceeds from the day’s events will be donated to breast cancer awareness charities.
