Lady Eagles Step Out of SoCon Play to Host Stetson

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Lady Eagles step out of Southern Conference play to host Stetson Thursday at 7 p.m. After opening SoCon play with two losses, the Lady Eagles look to get back to winning ways against a former conference foe at Hanner Fieldhouse. The athletic department will continue to take unwrapped toy donations for Toys for Tots in exchange for admission.

Georgia Southern (2-6) came up short in a 66-60 loss to Furman on Monday but showed improvement from its conference opener at Appalachian State. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) bounced back from a season-low in Boone with a season-high 18 points to lead the Lady Eagles against the Paladins, but the difference in the six-point contest was Furman's 22 trips to the free-throw line.

In last season's meeting, Georgia Southern defeated Stetson in a close game, 54-49. Former Lady Eagle Jamie Navarro scored 20 points and pulled down six boards in a victory that snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) leads GSU with 9.5 points per game, while Aishya Wofford (Agusta, Ga.) has the rebounding edge with 4.4 a contest. Brittney Benzio (Palm City, Fla.), who did not play against Furman, is the only Lady Eagle to hail from the state of Florida.

Stetson (6-3, 1-0) is off to a strong start; with two of their three losses coming against power conference teams. In their last outing they fell, 78-73, in overtime at Ball State. Victoria McGowan tallied a triple-double, the fifth in Hatter's history, but was unable to put Stetson over the top despite 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Hatters average 67.6 points per game and have three players averaging double figures. They are led by Shanasa Sanders' 15.8 points per game. Sasha Sims powers their rebounding efforts with 8.4 a contest and is also averaging 10.7 points per game.
