Women?s Basketball Picked to Finish Fifth in SoCon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Georgia Southern women’s basketball team was voted by the Southern Conference coaches to finish fifth in the league’s preseason poll, while senior Tiffany Brown was tabbed a member of the preseason All-Conference Team, it was announced Tuesday by the league.

Georgia Southern received 52 votes from league coaches, behind defending SoCon tournament champion and regular season co-champion Chattanooga with 79 points, regular season co-champion Western Carolina with 75 points, Davidson with 60 points, and UNC Greensboro with 54 points.  Chattanooga received seven first-place votes, while Western Carolina received three first-place votes.

Following Georgia Southern in the polls in sixth place is Appalachian State (33 points), seventh Wofford (31), eighth Elon (25), ninth Furman (24), and tenth College of Charleston (17).

Brown, a guard from Waxhaw, N.C. received her second consecutive preseason accolade and returns after leading the team in points (15.1) and steals (1.9) per contest.

Chattanooga senior Alex Anderson was named Preseason Player of the Year by the coaches.  Anderson led the Southern Conference is both points (20.5) and rebounds (10.1) per game during her junior season.
