Days-Bryan Selected to SEABL Women's 30-Year Anniversary All-Star Team
Victoria, Australia - Current women's assistant basketball coach and former Eagle standout Regina Days-Bryan was selected to the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) Women's 30 Year Anniversary All-Star Team as announced by the league office. Days-Bryan was also selected to the 1990's All-Decade Team.
Days-Bryan began her nine-year professional career in the SEABL where she played for the Dandenong Rangers from 1988-1991. Days-Bryan led the Rangers to four consecutive SEABL Championships and was voted the league's Most Valuable Player in 1990 and 1991. Following a three-year stint in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and a brief retirement, she returned to the SEABL in 1996 and helped lead the Knox Raiders to an SEABL championship that season.
Days-Bryan still holds several top-10 records in the SEABL including single season scoring average (28.5 points per game) and rebounding average (17.3 rebounds per game), both set during the 1991 season. During that same year, she recorded 19 defensive rebounds and 11 steals against Mt. Gambier, both top-ten single game SEABL records.
"I feel honored to receive this recognition by the league where my professional career began," said Days-Bryan. "When I went to Australia in 1988 I really didn't know what to expect. The competition was tough in the SEABL, but we were all one big family. When I arrived, everyone was so welcoming and it quickly became a second home for me. It was a great place to be both on and off the court and some of my favorite memories are from my experiences playing there."
Days-Bryan also ranks as one of the greatest women's basketball players in Georgia Southern history. The Mount Vernon, Ga., native led the Lady Eagles in scoring three times and was twice voted the New South Women's Athletic Conference 'Player of the Year.' She ranks second in career points (2,091), second in career scoring average (21.3 points per game) and third in career rebounds (1,078). She led the nation in field goal percentage in 1985-86, shooting 70.5% from the floor.
Days-Bryan enters her 15th season as an assistant coach under head coach Rusty Cram. In 1993 she was elected into the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame.
