Lady Eagles Entertain League-Leader Chattanooga
STATESBORO, Ga. Continuing a tough stretch of contests as the regular season nears its end, the Georgia Southern women’s basketball team returns to Hanner Fieldhouse to entertain league-leading Chattanooga, Monday (Feb. 25). The Southern Conference scuffle is slated for 7 p.m. and all women and girls are admitted free of charge.
Seeking to preserve its perfect 10-game home record, Georgia Southern (16-10, 12-3 SoCon) looks to bounce back after an 87-58 road loss to Western Carolina, Saturday (Feb. 23), which snapped a five-game win streak.
Unblemished in SoCon play, visiting Chattanooga (24-3, 16-0 SoCon) brings the nation’s longest current win streak at 19 games to Hanner. The Lady Mocs recently defeated College of Charleston by a 62-36 decision, and with the win, claim at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season title, its ninth consecutive.
Chattanooga leads the all-time series 23-16 over the Lady Eagles, while Georgia Southern’s home record versus the Lady Mocs stands at 11-6. Chattanooga holds a six-game win-streak over GSU, last defeating the Lady Eagles 64-50 in Chattanooga in January. Georgia Southern last beat the Lady Mocs in January 2005 at home by a 61-53 advantage.
Leading the Lady Eagles in scoring is senior guard Tiffany Brown (Waxhaw, N.C.) with 11.4 points per game, which is seventh-best in the conference. She is followed by classmate guard Shawnda Atwood (Pensacola, Fla.) with 10.2 points per contest, who is also leading the team with 5.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) dishes out a team-high 3.12 assists per game, which ranks sixth in the conference. She consistently ranks among the nation’s leaders in assist to turnover ratio (1.88).
Leading the league in scoring is Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson with 17.8 points per game. She pulls down the league’s second most rebounds per game with an 8.8 average. Shanara Hollinquest follows with 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
A 1985 graduate of Louisiana Tech, head coach Rusty Cram is in his 12th season at the helm of the Lady Eagles and carries a 183-161 career and school record.
Chattanooga head coach Wes Moore, a 1986 graduate of Tennessee, carries a 239-65 school record in his 10th year at the helm of the Lady Mocs. In his 19th year overall, Moore has posted a 439-121 record.

|Georgia Southern head women’s basketball coach Rusty Cram will be visiting students all over campus, Monday (Feb. 25) in an effort to rally student support for the remainder of the basketball season. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., he will by joined by GUS, the Georgia Southern cheerleaders and the GSU sports marketing staff as they hand out flyers and posters. They will be visiting most dormitories, the Russell Student Union, the University Store and Greek Row. Later that day, the Lady Eagles will hit the hardwood as they play host to Chattanooga at 7 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.|

Following is a list of promotions for the upcoming women’s basketball game, Monday (Feb. 25) as the Lady Eagles play host to Chattanooga at 7 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Monday’s game is Ladies Night when girls and women of all ages receive free admission.
GSU track & field team will be announced and introduced at halftime.
Lady Eagle softball team will be handing out free schedule posters and schedule cards. They will also be announced and introduced at halftime.
The first 200 fans will receive a free Subway and GSU mini basketball courtesy of Subway of Statesboro.
