Lady Eagles Travel to North Carolina for Two SoCon Games
STATESBORO, Ga. - After a disappointing end to their final two home games of a five-game homestand, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles travel to North Carolina for two Southern Conference tilts. The Women's Basketball team faces Elon on Friday at 7 p.m. and UNC Greensboro on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Georgia Southern (5-10, 1-5) opened their five-game homestand with three-straight wins over Jacksonville, Southern Wesleyan and Wofford before dropping the final two to Samford and Chattanooga. The Lady Eagles bounced back from a 19-point second half deficit to the Lady Mocs. They pulled within five points in the final minute, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) leads the team for the second-straight season in points with 10.5 a contest, and has scored in double figures in five-straight games. Leading the team in SoCon scoring, Janay Wilson (Warner Robins, Ga.) is averaging 9.0 points a game against league foes. Wilson has tallied nine or more points in the last three contests and tied a season-high of 13 points against Chattanooga.
One of the top scoring offenses in the SoCon, Elon (6-9, 2-4) averages 63.9 points per contest and is second in the league with a 35.1 three-point percentage. Ali Ford leads the squad and ranks second in the league with 15.7 points per contest. Kelsey Evans leads the team's rebounding efforts with 6.9 per game and is averaging 12.3 points per game.
UNC Greensboro (2-12, 1-5) has dropped eight-straight contests since defeating Samford 61-53 in their second Southern Conference game. The Spartans average 48.7 points and 33.9 rebounds per contest. Breonna Patterson leads UNCG with 10.3 points per game behind 12 made three pointers. Janae' Stevenson, who averages 8.8 points per game, has stepped up her game in league play and leads all Spartans with 10.5 points in SoCon play.
