Garrido and Hoffman Win Runner-Up Honors at Elon Invitational

Elon, N.C. - Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) advanced to the finals of the A2 Doubles flight this weekend and freshman Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) made a semifinals run in B2 Singles to highlight play for the Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team at the Elon Invitational.

Garrido and Hoffman won consecutive 8-6 matches over teams from East Carolina and USC Upstate before falling short against Radford's Igor Ogrizek and Joe Mills in Sunday's final.

Dromsky advanced to the semifinals in B2 singles with consecutive three-set wins, including a quarterfinals victory over North Carolina State's Will Robinson, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Dromsky is now 3-0 in three-set matches this season.

Junior Matthijs Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands) defeated Wake Forest's Amogh Prabhaker 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the A-1 Singles backdraw and Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain) won his first round match in B1 singles against Robert Kjellberg of North Carolina Wesleyan 6-2, 6-0.

"We showed some big improvements from our first tournament," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "I'm confident in this team's abilities and work ethic, but we will need to keep our noses to the grindstone at practice to be ready for Southern Conference play in the spring."

The Eagles will spend some time on the practice courts before traveling south to Gainesville, Fla. for the ITA Regional Oct. 21 - 24.
