Men?s Tennis Prepares for the North Carolina Fall Invitational

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men’s Tennis team is preparing for its second fall tournament of the 2008-09 season.  The Eagles will be participating in the North Carolina Fall Invitational at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

 

Senior Joris De Weerdt (Mortsel, Belgium) advanced to the finals of the A draw of Singles last week at the Quality Inn / Georgia Southern Invitational but lost to Federico Levi (1-6, 4-6).

 

Senior Matthew Sands (Nassau, Bahamas) is looking to rebound after suffering a first round defeat in the A draw of singles. 

 

Weerdt and Sands lost in doubles action in the A draw quarterfinals.

 

Gregory Bekkers (Antwerp, Belgium) and Senior Philip Prins (Cape Town, South Africa) advanced to the finals of the A draw of doubles and look to continue their good play starting Friday.

 

Others set to participate include: Freshmen Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Edio Castanhel (Criciuma, Brazil) and the duo of Derrick Davison (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Senior Alonso Rodriguez (Lima, Peru).

 

The North Carolina Fall Invitational starts Friday and goes through Sunday.
