Eagles Set to Open Conference Play Welcoming Appalachian State
With their USC Upstate match postponed on March 1 due to inclement weather, the Eagles’ last match took place in Jacksonville, Fla. on Feb. 22 when they routed Jacksonville University with a 5-2 ledger. The Eagles (4-2) jumped out to the early advantage securing the doubles point before heading into singles action where they captured victories at the one, three, four and six seeds, respectively.
The Mountaineers enter Friday’s contest with a 4-2 overall mark. ASU opened its 2009 campaign with a four-match win streak before dropping the next two to USC Upstate and most recently, South Carolina (Feb. 28). The Gamecocks thwarted the Mountaineers by a 6-1 tally. ASU’s lone victory came at the No. 2 seed where Bobby Lake took straight sets from No. 97 Diego Cubas.
Georgia Southern defeated ASU last season by a 5-2 decision. The doubles point, secured with three doubles wins, and four singles victories lifted the Ealges past the Mountaineers in Statesboro.
