Men?s Soccer Adds Three More

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern men’s soccer adds three more to their 2009 recruiting class. The class now includes 11 future student-athletes.

Head coach Kevin Kennedy’s class now includes two forwards, five midfielders, a goalkeeper and two defenders.

The class now includes five players from Georgia, two from Mississippi, one from South Carolina, one from Colorado and one from Australia.

 

Witt Carlisle

Witt is a forward for the U-19 Concorde-Fire Academy team that competes in the USSF Developmental Academy League. While competing in the Winter Showcase in Lancaster, California in December of 2008, Witt scored 2 goals and helped his team finish with a 2-1 record against some of the best competition in the country. He is also a four-year starter for his high school team, Fellowship Christian. In addition to being named Most Valuable Offensive Player for his sophomore and junior years, Witt led the team to the 2008 Region Championship. He was an All-Region Selection for 2007 and 2009, and named to the Atlanta Journal & Constitution’s All-Northside First Team in 2007.

He’s quick, very good technically and he has a nose for the goal. His work rate and tenacity are some of his strongest qualities, and he has proven that he can create opportunities and score important goals.”

 

Zack Johnson

5’11” 150 lbs.

 

Zack plays both right back and right midfielder for the U-18 2008 Georgia State Cup Champions Norcross Fury Gold 91. In addition to winning the Region Premier League east division, his club team won the 2008 Potomac Cup and 2008 Norcross Cup, as well as finishing as a quarterfinalist at the 2008 Southern Regional Championships. Zack earned the Coaches’ Award at Greater Atlanta Christian in 2006, as his team finished as State Finalist. In 2007, he led the county in assists and earned All-County honors as his team won the AA State Championship. He also earned All-County honors in 2008 as his team advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

 

Coach Kennedy on Zack Johnson: “Zack should give us some options as a right back or a wide midfielder. He has the quickness, fitness and take-on ability to make a very good right back for us. He likes to get forward out of the back and get involved in the attack. He obviously comes from some programs that play our style of soccer, and we hope that he will quickly make the transition to the college game.”

Aleksandar currently plays for Bonnyrigg White Eagles F.C. of the NSW Premier League in Australia. Previously, the midfielder was a member of Sydney Wanderers and Parramatta Eagles of the NSW Premier Youth League, capturing ‘Player of the Year’ honors at both clubs.  A graduate of Westfields Sports High School, Aleksandar led his team to an Errea Cup championship, NSW All-Schools Challenge championship, Sydney Regional championship, Bill Turner Cup runner-up finish and placed 4th at the Chinese Weifang Cup.  In addition, Aleksandar was selected to represent the NSW and Australia Indoor Soccer team.

Coach Kennedy on Aleksandar Tomic: “We expect Aleksandar to make an immediate impact in the midfield and adapt quickly to the college game.  He possesses great technical ability, vision, and is a very good passer of the ball.  His understanding of the game and previous experiences will be valuable to our team and we are very excited about his arrival.”
